Badminton School joins the Better Business Network
Badminton School, Bristol’s only independent girls only day and boarding school, has joined Bristol24/7’s Better Business network – an initiative to help businesses thrive whilst creating a positive impact on the city and the people who live there.
Badminton is excited to become a part of the growing group of local businesses, all committed to joining forces to enable projects which drive sustainable growth, inclusion and innovation for our city and beyond.
Badminton School has a long history in Bristol. Established in 1858, it is one of the oldest schools founded specifically to offer girls the same educational opportunities as boys. Badminton has inspired girls to success in nearly every area of life; famous alumni include the first female Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, novelist Iris Murdoch, artist Mary Fedden, actor Rosamund Pike and local politician Charlotte Leslie.
Today, Badminton is a thriving school for 4 – 18-year old girls. The size of the campus, nestled in the leafy suburb of Westbury-on-Trym and its community give it a homely and vibrant feel.
Whilst the school retains a nationally outstanding academic record, its focus continues to be on nurturing the girls’ natural curiosity and fuelling their passion for learning. It is a characteristic of Badminton girls that they are thoughtful individuals, able to evaluate information and decide for themselves. This approach extends beyond their studies and into the day to day life of the school, where girls are given a wide range of opportunities to grow, develop and express themselves in an enormous range of extra-curricular activities.
Badminton School is actively involved in an extensive array of community engagement activities such as collaboration with The Springboard Foundation, BEP (Bristol Education Partnership) and St Monica trust, all aimed at providing opportunities, encouraging inclusion and overcoming disadvantage.
Clare Anning, Director of Development and External Relations said: “We are thrilled about having joined the Better Business Network and we look forward to taking an active part in exploring what other opportunities we might be able to offer and create through this network. We also look forward to hosting meetings on our site for those who’ve never visited ‘the school behind the wall’”.
