BBRC injects £350k boost into Wake The Tiger’s expansion

By Miles Arnold  Wednesday Feb 14, 2024

Wake The Tiger is set for a significant expansion after securing a £350,000 investment from local impact investors Bristol & Bath Regional Capital (BBRC).

Founded in 2021 by the team behind Boomtown Festival, Wake The Tiger’s ‘Amazement Park®’ welcomed over 250,000 visitors last year. The recently completed OUTERverse, the second stage of development at the St. Philips site in Bristol, has doubled the size of the visitor experience and is now open to the public.

The £350,000 investment from City Funds, managed by BBRC, is part of a larger fundraising effort totaling £2 million. This includes £1 million in secured debt, partly from the Creative Growth Fund, and £1 million in new equity. Graham MacVoy, managing director at Wake The Tiger, expressed excitement about the growth plans and emphasised the organisation’s commitment to expanding access to the creative sector, particularly for underrepresented communities.

Better Business
Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

The impact of the investment extends to various initiatives, including community tickets, school visits, educational partnerships, work experience placements, apprenticeships, and an employment policy targeting underrepresented groups.

Wake The Tiger’s managing director highlighted the warm welcome from the Bristol community since their launch nearly three years ago. The investment from City Funds will contribute to unveiling the newly expanded site and program in the coming weeks.

Jari Moate, investment director at BBRC, praised Wake The Tiger for its role in raising awareness and shaping a better world through engaging art. City Funds, a £10 million place-based impact fund managed by BBRC, aims to support social enterprises, charities, and businesses addressing significant challenges in the Bristol region. To date, BBRC has deployed almost £9 million of the total fund.
