Boomsatsuma Film School students win Royal Television Society Craft Awards

Boomsatsuma Film School students celebrated a triumphant night at the RTS (Royal Television Society) Awards on Monday March 4, 2024. The prestigious event, held at the Watershed, recognised outstanding achievements in student filmmaking across the UK. Boomsatsuma‘s budding filmmakers secured an impressive five Craft Awards, showcasing their exceptional talents in various categories.

Among the winning films were “KILLING BUGS,” earning Jack Lee Pitchford a writing award, and “THE BRISTOL CROCODILE,” which secured a writing award for Lucy Rowe and Teddy Smith. The film “SUICIDE HEADACHE” received the sound award for Tom Foster and an editing award for Suleman Aqeel and Leon Lock. Additionally, “SUNFLOWER” shone brightly, earning Dora Pamment the production design Award.

Freya Billington, the head of boomsatsuma’s Film School, expressed her elation at the success of the students. Celebrating with a glass of champagne in hand, she remarked, “I am over the moon that our students are already making their mark and winning awards. This is an amazing achievement considering our Filmmaking Production and Post Production degrees have only been running for two years.”

Dr. Susan McMillan, executive dean at boomsatsuma, emphasised the school’s growing reputation in the film and TV sector. “Boomsatsuma’s Film School is fast developing a local, regional, and national reputation. This shows we are heading in the right direction – expect to see more award winning films in the future,” she said.

The winning films can be enjoyed on boomsatsuma’s course pages for Filmmaking: Production and Filmmaking: Post Production, where they are featured in the Projects section. As the school continues to make waves in the industry, these accolades mark a promising trajectory for the next generation of talent in Bristol’s film and TV sector.
