Bristol Waste raises over £41,000 for St Peter’s Hospice

By Bristol24/7  Monday Jun 10, 2024

Bristol Waste has surpassed £41,000 in donations to St Peter’s Hospice, thanks to the city’s dedication to reusing and shopping second hand.

The latest donation of £16,139 was achieved through the efforts of Bristol Waste’s Reuse Shop teams and the Household Reuse and Recycling Centre staff, along with the support of local residents who contribute and shop at the three Reuse Shops in Bristol.

Bristol Waste staff voted to partner with St Peter’s Hospice, a charity that provides essential care to patients and families in the Bristol area.

Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

Since then, the company has committed a significant portion of its reuse programme income to the hospice, reaching a total of £41,267 in donations.

Dave Knight, interim managing director for Bristol Waste, highlighted the importance of their work: “We are here to keep Bristol clean and safe, helping to deliver the city’s sustainability targets in partnership with the council.

“One of our values at Bristol Waste is that we do what’s right. This commitment to social value includes our dedication to reuse and support for St Peter’s Hospice.”

Knight expressed gratitude to the community: “There is a real sense of care and a sense of community at Bristol Waste.

“Through our award winning reuse programme, we donate part of the profits from our Reuse Shops to charity.

“The rest of the profits are reinvested into Bristol and its services. I’d like to thank everyone who has donated to, shopped at or volunteered in our Reuse Shops.”

Bristol Waste’s reuse initiative, which started as a single pop-up event, has expanded to three permanent shops located in Avonmouth, Hartcliffe Way, and St Philip’s.

These shops have become community hubs, saving items from waste, offering affordable goods, and raising funds for St Peter’s Hospice.

Susan Hamilton, CEO of St Peter’s Hospice, expressed her gratitude: “We are so grateful for all the contributions. They make a massive difference. At St Peter’s Hospice, we support 3,000 patients across Bristol and the surrounding area each year.”

Bristol Waste and St Peter’s Hospice have been partners since 2018, with significant contributions totaling over £41,000.
