City of Bristol College announce new chair of governors

By Bristol24/7  Wednesday Feb 28, 2024

City of Bristol College is thrilled to announce the appointment of Phil Smith as the incoming chair of governors, succeeding Peter Rilett at the end of his eight year tenure in July 2024. Phil’s appointment comes as the college finalises its ambitious strategy and mission, a comprehensive roadmap for future growth, academic excellence, and enhanced community engagement.

Phil Smith, currently serving as the managing director of Business West since 2003, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in the business world. His role in guiding companies to grow, innovate, and export positions him uniquely to provide valuable insights into the skills businesses seek, aligning with the college’s vision.

Stepping into the role from Peter Rilett, who played a pivotal role in achieving financial stability and securing an Ofsted rating of Good in the past year, Phil is poised to continue the trajectory of success. Julia Gray, principal and CEO, expressed gratitude for Peter’s impactful leadership and looks forward to Phil’s vision guiding the college into its next chapter.
