By Bristol24/7  Tuesday Mar 5, 2024

In a demonstration of his commitment to further education, west of England mayor Dan Norris visited City of Bristol College as part of Colleges Week 2024, an initiative by the Association of Colleges. The visit aimed to underscore the crucial role of further education institutions in the region and promote their value.

Welcomed by Joanne Ward, vice principal of corporate services & external relations, Norris engaged in a comprehensive tour of the college’s facilities. The tour commenced at the South Bristol Skills Academy and the Advanced Skills Construction Centre, where he observed the dedication and proficiency of adult learners funded through the West of England Combined Authority.

Witnessing demonstrations at the Construction Centre, Norris explored the learners’ skills in essential areas for the local construction industry. The visit sparked discussions about the college’s initiatives in green skills and its aspirations for sustainable construction.

He expressed pride in being a “jobs first mayor” and emphasised his determination to provide funding to colleges for training young people for high quality, well paid jobs in the region.

The engagement between Dan Norris and students highlighted the significance of vocational training in nurturing talent and empowering individuals. Joanne Ward, vice principal, expressed gratitude for the visit, emphasising the opportunity to showcase current provisions and discuss future ambitions in sustainable construction.
