Grundon announces waste management partnership with Bristol Zoological Society
The Bristol Zoological Society, a renowned conservation and education charity, has awarded Grundon a three year contract to manage waste and recycling services. This partnership comes in anticipation of increased visitor numbers and reflects the society’s commitment to sustainability.
Daniel Peacey, regional sales manager for Grundon, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. “It’s great to be working with such a high-profile Bristol organisation,” Peacey said. “The zoo will be a key client for us, and we’ll be bringing our full suite of services to them as they develop.”
Peacey highlighted the importance of sustainability in their approach. “Reporting is a big thing – we’ll be helping them identify potential improvements with real detailed analysis of their various waste streams and providing suggestions on how they can continue to generate even better recycling figures. Essentially, we’re looking to be a sustainability partner, not just a provider of services.”
Grundon’s services will be implemented in phases, starting with the installation of over 60 bins for mixed recycling, compostable packaging, and other waste types. Additionally, larger 1,100 litre bins will be placed in the service yard, and two bins will be provided at the zoo’s head offices in Hollywood Mansion House, where Grundon will also offer confidential shredding services.
Jonathan Timney, Director of Estates at Bristol Zoological Society, expressed excitement about the partnership. “Bristol Zoological Society is excited to be working in partnership with Grundon to ensure recycling and waste needs are met across our organisation. Grundon was selected after a rigorous selection process, and we believe they will provide the insight and expert advice needed to enhance our recycling efforts, supporting our mission of Saving Wildlife Together.”
Grundon has been active in Bristol since 2020, implementing key sustainability initiatives, including the launch of a £300,000 electric collection vehicle. The company manages waste streams for major events and sporting occasions across southern England, including Royal Ascot and the British Grand Prix, as well as for sporting clubs like Forest Green Rovers and Gloucestershire Cricket Club.
