Nominations open for Bristol Young Heroes awards 2024
Bristol’s premier annual event celebrating the achievements of young people is back for its 11th year, as the Bristol Young Heroes Awards opens its doors for nominations. The organisers are urging the local community to identify unsung heroes aged 11-19 residing in a BS postcode, whose extraordinary accomplishments, resilience or positive impact deserve recognition.
Since its inception, the awards have honoured over 300 deserving young individuals who have triumphed over adversity, made a difference in others’ lives, or achieved something remarkable. Nominations can be submitted online until March 14, providing a month for the community to put forward deserving candidates.
The impact of being nominated extends beyond the ceremony, with 80% of past nominees reporting a significant boost in self-confidence and aspirations. The 12 month Purposeful Pathways program, introduced by Community of Purpose, awaits all finalists, offering a journey of increased resilience, confidence and genuine opportunities through goal setting, values, and purpose exploration guided by personal mentors.
Maddie, a previous Action Hero finalist, expressed, “It’s a really special award, you create friendships for life, you create connections, you have the opportunity to develop skills that you might not have had the opportunity to do so.”
Shanay, another past finalist, described the program as “inspiring and helpful,” emphasising its transformative effect on her perspective.
Amy Kington, CEO of Community of Purpose, stressed the importance of recognising young people’s achievements and providing them with the confidence, purpose, and inspiration that can shape their future lives and careers.
The awards offer nine categories, and nominations are free. The Community of Purpose team has provided helpful tips for nominations, encouraging detailed entries that highlight the nominee’s achievements without worrying about perfect writing.
Nominations close on March 14, and the gala awards ceremony is scheduled for July 5 at Bristol Harbour Hotel. The event promises a special evening for the young honorees, their families, and friends, with local celebrities, including actor Joe Sims and bake off contestant Briony Williams, joining business and political leaders in supporting and celebrating Bristol’s outstanding youth.
