Social enterprise Raised in Bristol champions Social Enterprise Day
Raised in Bristol, a local social enterprise dedicated to providing top-notch early years education while supporting community hubs, is marking Social Enterprise Day with a celebration of its commitment to positive community impact and financial sustainability.
The Bristol-based organisation operates day nurseries across the city, striving to achieve long-term financial stability for community hubs while delivering essential services. Social Enterprise Day, observed globally on November 16, shines a spotlight on the remarkable contributions that social enterprises make to communities and the environment worldwide.
Social enterprises, like Raised in Bristol, are businesses driven by a mission to create positive social or environmental change. These enterprises reinvest or donate a significant portion of their profits to their social or environmental missions. Raised in Bristol, part of the over 100,000 social enterprises in the UK, who combined contribute an estimated £60 billion annually to the economy.
Founded in 2017, Raised in Bristol plays a crucial role in the city’s social enterprise landscape, creating local jobs, paying a Living Wage, and fostering community resilience. Anne Malindine, Co-founder and CEO, highlighted the significance of Social Enterprise Day, emphasising the transformative impact social enterprises have on lives and communities.
Malindine said, “Without shareholders, Raised in Bristol’s profits are shared with our community partners. To date, we have contributed £406,000 in commercial rent to our community partners, fostering local prosperity.”
The social enterprise’s commitment to building a circular economy in Bristol is evident, with almost 100% of its income derived from trading and 100% of profits donated to environmental or social benefits. Raised in Bristol prioritises ethical, local, and environmentally sustainable procurement, directly investing in the local economy and supporting businesses like Bristol24/7.
As the organisation looks ahead, it remains dedicated to elevating the profile of the early years profession and ensuring the importance of early childhood development and education is recognized. Over the years, Raised in Bristol has supported more than 600 families and continues to expand its impact.
Peter Holbrook, CEO of Social Enterprise UK, commended Raised in Bristol, stating, “Social Enterprise Day is a celebration of the great work social enterprises up and down the country are doing to protect our environment and support communities in need.”
