UWE Healthcare Students Collaborate with Leading Bristol Medical Simulator Manufacturer

By Bristol24/7  Monday Sep 4, 2023

In a groundbreaking collaboration, students pursuing midwifery, physician associate, and nursing courses at the University of the West of England (UWE) are now benefitting from cutting-edge medical simulation technology provided by Bristol-based manufacturer, Limbs & Things. This partnership aims to revolutionize medical education and ensure that future healthcare professionals are equipped with the skills and confidence needed for their careers.

UWE’s Glenside campus recently played host to a group of first-year nursing students who joined forces with Limbs & Things’ staff to showcase how these lifelike medical task trainers are integrated into the classroom environment. These task trainers closely replicate the look and feel of real patients, providing an immersive learning experience for students.

Among the innovative products featured in the collaboration is the globally acclaimed PROMPT Flex simulated birthing range. This anatomically precise model of a mother’s pelvis and baby offers an interactive platform for students to practice crucial birthing procedures. Additionally, students had the opportunity to work with a range of other simulation tools for lumbar punctures, urinary catheterization, cannulation, and abdominal examinations.

Anne Allin, commercial director at Limbs & Things, expressed enthusiasm about working with local partners and highlighted the importance of this collaboration, saying, “We love working with local partners, and it was great to meet some of our future nurses at UWE Bristol and see the amazing simulation suites on campus. This is exactly why we created our products in the first place – to train up each generation of healthcare professionals with medical simulators that truly look and feel like the real thing.”

The partnership between UWE and Limbs & Things marks a significant step forward in medical education, ensuring that students receive comprehensive training through state-of-the-art simulation technology. This collaborative effort has the potential to shape the future of healthcare education, ultimately benefitting patients by producing highly skilled and confident healthcare professionals.
