I’m Kath Senior, the Founder of EcoStardust Biodegradable Glitter.
I started my EcoStardust journey three years ago in August 2016 after buying kilos of glitter for my birthday party and discovering that glitter was plastic. As someone passionate about the environment, it took the shine out of it for me. I was seeing the rise of bioplastics at festivals, so thought there must be an alternative available. After extensive research, I found a manufacturer and launched EcoStardust officially in April 2017. EcoStardust sells a plant-based glitter known as Bioglitter®, which has been independently proven to biodegrade in the natural environment within weeks. Alongside this, we also sell everything a glitter enthusiast needs to #GlitterWithoutTheLitter.
We are a brand committed to sustainability and package all of our products in recycled or recyclable materials and have greatly reduced our use of plastic in our own operations and with all of our suppliers. We have been fortunate to see amazing growth and have moved offices three times. We now have an amazing warehouse in Easton Business Centre. I discovered Get Set for Growth at the start of the year and I wish I had discovered them sooner. My contact Sian has helped me with so many things and I feel like I can talk to her about any business problem I am having. Sian understands the business and our values and put us in touch with The Planet Mark™ Start! Programme so we could really cement our sustainable business practices. I have only been working with Get Set West a few months, but their help has been invaluable and we have grown from a team of four to a team of six.
We also have a Glitter Amnesty where we are asking people to send us their plastic #GuiltyGlitter for upcycling. We have partnered with a company called Rochfort Customs who make jewellery from the waste resin leftover from when they make surfboards. We now send them the plastic glitter to make wonderful sparkly jewellery and keep this glitter out of our environment – anyone who participates will then receive a 15 per cent off discount code to purchase replacement biodegradable glitter.
In the future, we aim to continue to grow the business in a sustainable way in line with our mission to balance people, product and planet, donating ten per cent of profits to environmental charities.
