Award-winning industry talk series returns to Bristol

By Milan Perera  Saturday Sep 14, 2024

An award-winning trades-orientated tech talk will be returning to Bristol after the success of two previous outings.

As in its previous instalments, the TechTalk is organised by the leading electrical manufacturer CEF and will be held at Ashton Gate on Wednesday, September 18.

The free event is set to equip tradespeople with the latest updates in technology and regulations (regs) with the necessary CPD-accredited training.

Better Business
Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

For the past two years, many local tradespeople found the talks productive and found a way to connect with members of various trades.

This year’s theme ‘Have Your Say’ is set to provide a platform for electricians to collaborate with CEF and event partners – the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). Not only will the attendees be able to keep abreast of IET wiring regulations while obtaining 3.5 hours worth of CPD but also will have the opportunity to meet and greet representatives from over 20 leading brands and industry leaders.

Darren Staniforth, head of technical solutions and Dave Austin, technical presenter, the TechTalks will be returning across 21 locations over 11 weeks across the UK and Northern Ireland.

Darren Staniforth said: “TechTalks were created in response to the rate of change within our industry – either through new innovations or the development of standards.

“We wanted to create a platform that supported contractors and installers with the information and updates they need to keep up. We’re excited that our fourth series of TechTalks also provides them with an opportunity to communicate the changes they’d like to see to standards going forwards.”

“With over 10,000 people attending TechTalks in the last two years, we’re excited to see new and familiar faces in attendance up and down the country. And it’s open to all – you don’t have to be a CEF customer to attend,” added Staniforth

With the catalogue of failures as brought to light with the Grenfell tragedy, it has become a matter of utmost importance to adopt the safe and updated industry practises. These updates include changes to BS 5839 for fire alarms (non-domestic), an explanation of the BAFE scheme – in line with  the second Grenfell report due to be released in September.

The free event will include a Q&A session and complimentary refreshments. In 2023, CEF won the Training Provider of the Year award at the Electrical Contracting News (ECN) Awards.
