By Milan Perera  Monday Oct 21, 2024

A Bristol-based AI (Artificial Intelligence) firm has received the highest official recognition when it welcomed the King’s special representative to its premises near Temple Meads.

Lord lieutenant Peaches Golding presented the prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation to One Big Circle at a special event.

One Big Circle which was founded in 2017 by Barnaby Kent, Ian Packer, Sam Low and Emily Kent has grown significantly, creating over 60 local jobs and supporting specialist skills and training in the Bristol area.

The firm uses AI to clean up the country’s railways, and its technology is deployed across 20,000 miles of track by Network Rail.

The King’s Award highlighted the company’s ongoing growth and commitment to innovation in Critical National Infrastructure

Not being content with its domestic success, One Big Circle has set its sights on European expansion with trails of its systems across Europe where other countries could soon benefit from the technology to make railway lines safer.

The King’s Award highlighted the company’s ongoing growth and commitment to innovation in Critical National Infrastructure.

Presenting the award, Peaches Golding commended the firm’s achievements. She said: “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to One Big Circle for achieving the prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise in the category of Innovation – one of only 61 companies across the UK to achieve the Award in this category.

“The application of innovation to both drive forward the safe inspection of railways and to reduce repair and maintenance costs brings about real time and money savings.”

Golding toured the company’s offices, engaging with employees from various departments to understand their contributions to the company’s success

During her visit, Peaches Golding was shown the company’s pioneering Automated Intelligent Video Review (AIVR) technology, which is expected to be revolutionising safety and efficiency within the UK rail industry.

Golding toured the company’s offices, engaging with employees from various departments, including business development, finance, engineering, and software development, to understand their contributions to the company’s success.

The day concluded with a speech from Peaches Golding, who shared the history of the King’s Award and read the official citation from His Majesty The King. She then presented the King’s Award trophy to the four founders, acknowledging their innovation in the UK rail industry.
