Bristol city centre businesses receive fresh boost in journey towards sustainability
Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership’s Climate Action Programme has launched a new partnership with Bristol City Centre Business Improvement District (BID) to help businesses in the area achieve their sustainability goals.
Since 2021, the programme has been helping local businesses and organisations to design and implement responses to the climate and nature crises.
Under the new partnership, it will offer free climate support to organisations on the city centre.
Bex Shreeve, engagement officer at Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership, said: “The Climate Action Programme offers free practical support to help businesses realise their climate ambitions, no matter the stage of their journey.
“Through our collaboration, a programme of events and resources will be tailored to meet the needs of organisations in the Bristol City Centre BID area.”
The partnership’s Climate Action Programme was launched with the support of NatWest Group and Bristol City Council to help organisations across Bristol and the wider region to reduce their carbon emissions, as part of efforts to tackle the climate crisis.

Since Redcliffe & Temple BID joined the programme a year ago, a tailored programme of events and resources has enabled businesses to access expertise in tackling issues relating to climate and nature, to better their chances of reaching their goals.
Building on this success, Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership is now looking to engage more businesses in the Bristol City Centre BID area, which is already home to several members of the Climate Leaders Group – organisations with a stated aim and plan in place to achieve net zero by 2030. Those involved include Bristol Beacon, Bristol City Council, Bristol Old Vic, JLL, Triodos, University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, University of Bristol, University of West of England, Watershed and We The Curious.

“Becoming more sustainable is a key priority for many of our businesses, so a partnership like this is really important to help them achieve their goals” – Tom Swithinbank
The Climate Leaders Group is for organisations with ambitions to be carbon neutral by 2030 and a plan for reducing their emissions. The group supports and showcases organisations that are leading the way in reducing their own carbon emissions, to accelerate Bristol’s progress towards becoming carbon neutral.
Tom Swithinbank, project manager at Bristol City Centre BID, said: “Becoming more sustainable is a key priority for many of our businesses, so a partnership like this is really important to help them achieve their goals. The work that Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership has achieved so far in aligning businesses with achievable, bespoke solutions is really commendable so it’s great to see this now expanding into the city centre area.”

Free climate support will be offered to organisations in the city centre
Levy-paying businesses within the Bristol City Centre BID zone can attend a launch event on Wednesday 20 March at JLL, Great George Street.
The announcement comes after Redcliffe & Temple Business Improvement District (BID) and Bristol City Centre BID have launched Bristol Cargo Bikes for Business, encouraging businesses to use sustainable freight options to receive and distribute goods from Bristol city centre.
