Bristol film and TV sector brings in £140m

By Laura Collacott  Monday Mar 13, 2017

Bristol’s independent film and TV companies, forming the third largest cluster in the UK, generated at estimated £140.3m for the city’s economy, according to the latest research from UWE. In 2014, it was estimated that the industry contributed £17.5m to the city’s economy.

3,700 people are employed in the sector across 131 film and television companies working in six specialist sub-clusters: natural history, animation, post-production, factual, corporate and facilities.

“Natural history and animation remain Bristol’s principal strengths in terms of turnover and jobs,” says Dr Steve Presence who conducted the researched with colleague Prof Andrew Spicer; “though a significant proportion of revenue is now generated by companies producing factual programmes.”
