Bristol hoteliers back developments at Filton and Ashton Gate
Hotel owners and operators across the city have expressed their approval for major new developments planned in Bedminster and Filton.
The announcement of a new £100m development at Ashton Gate Stadium including a new sports and convention centre has been welcomed by Bristol Hoteliers Association (BHA).
BHA members have also backed YTL’s proposals for building an arena within the Brabazon Hangars on the edge of the former Filton Airfield.
BHA chairman Imran Ali said: “This is great double boost for the West Country capital and we are hoping the city’s leaders are equally positive.
“While a decision is yet to be made on the long-term future of the Temple Island site in the centre of the city, the news that two private investors are willing to pump millions of pounds into the city should be welcomed with open arms.
“We need to grasp this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. If not we run the risk of falling behind more progressive, forward looking cities in the country.”

Bristol Hoteliers Association chair Imran Ali is keen for development to start on a mixed-use scheme on Temple Island as quickly as possible
Ali said that he is keen for development to start on a mixed-use scheme on Temple Island as quickly as possible.
He said: “My fear is that leaders at the council will continue to procrastinate about what will happen to one of the main gateways into the city well in to the future…
“Bristol City Council needs to start making decisions, and quickly, otherwise the commercial viability to include conference facilities at Temple Island will become less and less attractive as the days move on.”
