Bristol startup named New Business of the Year
A Bristol-based startup has been crowned New Business of the Year in a national awards ceremony.
Recruitment firm for the space sector, EVONA, picked up the accolade at the Lloyds Bank British Business Excellence Awards 2021 in London.
The award recognises the importance of the company within its sector and that it has exceeded its initial targets for growth.
Tom Kelly, co-founder of EVONA, says the award is a “validation of everything we believe in.”
He said: “We’ve worked tirelessly to make EVONA something special and to have such high level external praise is such an incredible feeling.”

EVONA, which was founded in 2018, has tripled in size in the last 18 months and avoided furloughing staff.
Co-founder Richard Joyce added: “Our mission is to raise the curtain on the global space sector.
“We want to make space accessible for everybody, it’s not just about astronauts – whether you’re an engineer, lawyer, teacher, whatever your chosen profession, there’s space for everyone.
“Our industry is space, a sector focussed on the betterment of our planet and that starts at home, it starts with our country.”
Through its CSR initiatives, the company has also planted nearly 700 trees this year, raised more than £12,000 for mental health charities and donated hundreds of food parcels to local food banks.
