Bristol Technology Festival returns for 2020

By Ellie Pipe  Monday Nov 9, 2020

Technological innovation and digital breakthroughs will be showcased during an event dedicated to shining a light on Bristol’s flourishing tech ecosystem.

Spanning the breadth and depth of the sector, the city’s second annual technology festival will share the stories of entrepreneurs, engineers and creatives and seek to capture the hopes and possibilities for the next decade.

An online programme will take place from Monday, November 9 to Sunday, November 15, and organisers hope to reach an even bigger audience than the inaugural 2019 festival, which saw more than 5,000 attendees at more than 40 events.

Better Business
Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

Bristol Technology Festival is coordinated by a group of volunteers from across the sector, including representatives from Hargreaves Lansdown, TechSPARK, Deloitte and Engine Shed, while events throughout the week are crowdsourced from organisations across the city.

Ben Shorrock, the managing director at TechSPARK, said “The world has changed since our inaugural event, and we’ve all seen how tech and digital businesses have stepped up to offer solutions to a global crisis. Bristol’s tech community will be central to our city’s economy going forward, and the volunteers behind Bristol Technology Festival are committed to showcasing our talent in a socially responsible way.

“We have to grow a diverse workforce, reaching out to and welcoming communities within the city which have not traditionally been included in the tech sector. Secondly, we need to promote the region externally, nationally and internationally, to attract new talent and to continue to enjoy investment in the burgeoning tech businesses here, as many of them are now scaling up, and gaining a global reputation for innovation.”

This year, the festival will ask the question: what will the next decade see for the Bristol tech cluster and how can it help us to build back better from the current crisis?

Organisers will seek to capture people’s hopes and predictions for the next decade and explore in what ways technology will influence how we live and work, and what impact the tech cluster will have both locally and globally.
