Bristol Urban, Enterprise & Innovation Network meeting
Black, Asian and ethnic minority (BAME) entrepreneurs from across the region are invited to convene in Colston Hall for a unique networking event.
Aimed at aiding effective collaboration and innovation, the Bristol Urban, Enterprise & Innovation Network meeting takes place on Wednesday, March 20 from 6pm.
Key note speakers include Afzal Shah, Bristol City Council’ lead for small businesses, and Nick Sturge, director of Engine Shed.
A panel will be chaired by Bobbi O’Gilvie, of Ready to Blog, with Azir Razzak, of A2Z Technologies, Dionne McLarty, of Georgina’s Hair Extensions and Gary Miller, of Mutual Solutions Limited.
The event, hosted by Black South West Network, is the second meeting of the network established in the wake of research that identified racism – in the form of negative stereotyping and biases –as the most significant barrier facing BAME business development in Bristol.
Lack of information and support when accessing finance and dealing with bureaucracy were other common issues, with the supporting infrastructure already in place to aid entrepreneurs navigate the challenges of business development deemed inefficient and, in some cases, discriminatory.
The research also highlighted strengths of the BAME sector, namely innovation and resilience.
The Bristol Urban, Enterprise & Innovation Network was officially launched in November to help facilitate BAME business development, and Wednesday’s event will be the second meeting.
