Coveted apprenticeship to attend SXSW
Jasmine Thompson has beaten off stiff competition to win the chance of a lifetime to attend the world’s largest interactive media conference in Texas next year.
South by Southwest (SXSW) is an annual conference celebrating film, interactive media and live music. Every year it welcomes a host of industry experts and prestigious speakers.
Aspiring writer and illustrator Jasmine, 22, was selected from a large group of hopefuls after entering a competition set by Bristol Media and youth empowerment group Babbasa.
Before heading off, Jasmine will get five months of intensive mentoring by two leading creative industry experts in Bristol.
Jasmine said: “I couldn’t believe that the panel had chosen me from all the other candidates but I’m so excited by this opportunity and to be visiting SXSW in Austin is a dream come true.”
Chris Thurling from Bristol Media added: “The long term future of our creative industry depends on local agencies and businesses broadening their search for talent and offering entry level opportunities like apprenticeships.
“This high profile initiative is just one aspect of a series of commitments made by Bristol Media to support the growth of the city’s creative sector from the ground up and to develop the professional aspirations of local young people irrespective of their backgrounds.”
