Bristol24/7 and Planet First team up to make their mark in Bristol

By Bristol24/7  Monday Mar 4, 2019

More than 60 per cent of small businesses could take actions to improve their environmental impact but fail to do so. Bristol24/7 and The Planet Mark Start are teaming up to offer small businesses the chance to understand and develop their green credentials.

Better Business presents: Building a Sustainable Business on Tuesday, April 30 2019  at The Foundation on the corner of Deanery Road and St George’s Road to explore the business case for developing a sustainability plan and the tangible benefits of doing so.

Better Business
Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

Mike Harris, programme of The Planet Mark Start, said: “The business case for sustainability has never been more relevant. We all want to make the right decisions to protect the planet but it must stack up financially for our businesses.

“When an organisation gets The Planet Mark Start! Certificate they will identify ways to help their business financially, as well as environmentally. It really is a no-brainer and I love the fact we can help all types of business from sole traders working out of their kitchens to multi-million pound SMEs with large offices and energy bills!

“Teaming up with Better Business is a natural fit for us and a great opportunity to raise awareness of the free workshops we run regularly. A key part of being a sustainable business is telling your customers about it and we hope that working with Better Business will allow us to spread the word.”

The Planet Mark Start service currently offers a rolling programme of free workshops, with more detailed training sessions available should a business want a more comprehensive support package – again funded by ERDF and the local authorities.

Speaking on behalf of Better Business, Managing Director Ben Wright, said: “When we spoke to people and businesses across the city about what a better Bristol meant to them, sustainability and the environment were very high on the list of their priorities so we really wanted to collaborate on a project in this area.

“It’s great to work with a brand like The Planet Mark Start which is tackling sustainability in a way which works well for local businesses. It is a fantastic approach that speaks to local businesses including our Better Business members, and more importantly, their customers. We look forward to working with them over the year and helping to raise awareness of the businesses who achieve The Planet Mark Start Certificate.”

Backed by ERDF funding, the free workshops, events and training will help a business to build the ‘business case’ for sustainability. Incorporating elements of social, environmental and energy efficiency to create a green solution which works for them.
