Care company founded after personal tragedy wins B-Corp status

By Milan Perera  Monday Dec 16, 2024

Best Life Companions, a provider of companionship and care services, has been awarded B Corporation accreditation.

The sustainability recognition acknowledges businesses that meet the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

The B Corp accreditation highlights Best Life Companions’ commitment to “ethical care and its contribution to a sustainable and inclusive world”. The certification process evaluates companies across five key areas: governance, workers, community, environment, and customers.

Better Business
Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

According to Best Life Companions, this accreditation demonstrates its commitment to using business as a force for good, ensuring that its operations benefit not only its clients but also its employees and the wider community.

Drawing on her first-hand experience of caring for a loved one with a degenerative disease, Emma-Louise founded Adorno Companions five years ago

Emma-Lousie Doney, founder and chief executive of best life companions, said: “Our mission has always been about more than just providing services – it’s about creating positive change in the lives of our clients, our team, and our community.

“Achieving B Corp accreditation pushes us to continue driving meaningful change.”

The recent recognition follows a major rebrand of the company this summer, which began its business journey five years ago under its previous iteration, Adorno Companions.

For Emma-Louise Doney, the founding of the care firm she was to lead had a personal story behind it. Caring for her grandmother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s, sparked a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by many individuals and their families.

Drawing on her first-hand experience of caring for a loved one with a degenerative disease, Emma-Louise founded Adorno Companions to provide social support, companionship, and other services to older people in the region, enabling them to remain independent and live in their own homes.

As part of the global B Corp community, best life companions joins a network of companies redefining success by balancing profit with purpose.

The company’s commitment to ethical employment is underscored by its accreditation by the National Living Wage Foundation, ensuring fair pay for all employees.

Best Life Companions also supports local charities and initiatives, such as the Best Life Wishes programme, which helps fulfil personalised dreams for clients, further contributing to the community.
