City Leap scoops two top industry awards for ‘city-scale innovation’
Bristol City Leap, in collaboration with Vattenfall Heat UK, has secured two prestigious industry awards.
Bristol Heat Network was named ‘green heat project of the year’ at the UK Green Business Awards 2024 and won the ‘heat project award’ at the Decentralised Energy Awards 2024.
Bristol City Leap, a 20-year joint venture between Bristol City Council and Ameresco with Vattenfall as a subcontractor, was praised for its approach to decarbonisation of the energy sector on a city-scale.

“These two awards are fantastic recognition for our Bristol Heat Network,” said James Sterling
Speaking to Bristol24/7, James Sterling, communications and social value manager at City Leap, said: “These two awards are fantastic recognition for our Bristol Heat Network.
“Bristol City Council had the vision and foresight to deliver the beginnings of a low-carbon alternative for providing heat to buildings in the city.
“These awards highlight how our partners at Vattenfall are delivering innovative solutions to decarbonise the city and showcasing the Bristol Heat Network as a leading infrastructure project in the UK.”
At the UK Green Business Awards, judges applauded Bristol Heat Network’s substantial emissions savings and its potential to serve as a blueprint for other cities.
The project plays a pivotal role in Bristol’s net-zero ambitions, utilising an innovative water source heat pump to deliver clean energy to homes, offices, and public buildings throughout the city.
The Association of Decentralised Energy Awards recognised Bristol City Leap and Vattenfall Heat UK for their city-wide approach and commitment to social value.
The judges highlighted the project’s ambitious scale and its leadership within the heat network industry.

The network supplies heat equivalent to over 5,000 homes, with additional connections in progress.
England’s largest single harbour-based water source heat pump at Castle Park Energy Centre contributes to the network’s low-carbon heat supply.
Dom Barton, director of heat networks at Vattenfall, added: “Our achievements serve as a blueprint for other UK cities committed to combatting climate change.
“These awards recognise the dedication of our hardworking team, striving for fossil freedom every day.”
