Engine Shed launches new workspace

By Aphra Evans  Wednesday Sep 20, 2017

Engine Shed has opened a new workspace called The Interchange to cater for growing demand for office space in Bristol.

The new offices, which opened on September 1, are housed in Engine Shed’s main building and form part of its wider aims to drive stable economic growth in the West of England.

“Engine Shed has been pretty much fully occupied since we opened in 2013,” said Nick Sturge, its director. “This newly configured space gives us extra capacity in advance of Engine Shed II which will make the transition smoother.”

Planning proposal for Engine Shed II

In what will be another string to the company’s bow, a proposal to convert the derelict George & Railway Hotel into Engine Shed II, featuring 325,000 square foot of new office space in the heart of the city, was submitted for planning at the end of last year.

But things are already underway at The Interchange, where the first new tenants have already moved in, including Business West, TechSpark, Bristol Is Open and Invest in Bristol & Bath (IBB).

GW4, an alliance between the universities of Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter, has also become a member following an invitation to join the space due to their significant contribution to inclusive economic growth in the West of England.

The 2,200 square foot offices were made available when IBB, the West of England Combined Authority (WECA), and the LEP moved from the Engine Shed to larger premises within the Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone, while retaining satellite tenancy at the business hub.
