Enterprising Women Showcase celebrates innovative Bristol startups

By Ellie Pipe  Thursday Oct 8, 2020

From artificial intelligence and hydroponic systems to the world’s first breastfeeding app, innovative new products and services will be showcased during a live pitching event.

Featuring a cohort of 18 tech entrepreneurs, SETsquared Bristol’s Enterprising Women event takes place on October 27 and is the culmination of a one-year programme, supported by NatWest, designed to help startup founders develop their work and raise funds.

SETsquared Bristol was awarded a £20,000 grant by NatWest to run the programme and each founder received specialist mentoring and coaching, a series of workshops and access to SETsquared’s Advisors-in-Residence, as well as support to launch a crowdfunding campaign.

Better Business
Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

The event will be live-streamed to give the public a chance to see the latest emerging innovation and virtual attendees will have the opportunity to connect with the entrepreneurs online after the event.

Cheryl Gourlay, NatWest Women In Business manager, said: “We’re so pleased with the way in which SETsquared have reached and inspired women of all ages across the Bristol region, helping create a new generation of inspirational women entrepreneurs.

“The South West is home to so many talented women who NatWest want to see succeed, which is why our grant support of this project was so important to us. We’re looking forward to seeing SETsquared and the women it is supporting achieve even greater success in 2021.”

Annie Lywood, CEO of Bonnie Binary and a member of the cohort, says the workshops and mentor guidance has put her in a strong position to launch a crowdfunding campaign for the business.

“I’ve derived great value from the SETsquared Enterprising Women Pre-Incubation programme, the support provided has helped me to grow my sensory huggable business, Bonnie Binary,” says Annie.

Steve Edwards, centre director at SETsquared Bristol added: “We’re dedicated to ensuring that quality business support is inclusive and accessible. Running the Enterprising Women programme has allowed us to extend our services beyond our usual focus of tech incubation and provide the best start for these talented women to turn their ideas into commercially viable business propositions.”
