Major refurbishment and expansion plans for Temple Quarter building
Work is set to get underway on the transformation and expansion of a building in the heart of Bristol’s Temple Quarter.
Part of the wider regeneration of the area around Temple Meads Station, the plans include a full refurbishment of a property known as the Quay, which will more than double in height to seven storeys.
Bristol City Council granted permission to go ahead with proposals for the building that currently has office space spanning over four floors.
Work is set to start in September and it is estimated the newly-renovated property will open early next year as offices with a “focus on sustainability and wellness”. It will also include new bicycle facilities and a rooftop terrace with views over the city.

Hartnell Taylor Cook and Lambert Smith Hampton have been appointed the joint agents on the project on behalf of Britannia Invest A/S with asset manager APAM, development manager Bankfoot APAM and architect TP Bennet.
Chris Grazier, office agency partner at Hartnell Taylor Cook, said: “It’s a privilege to be appointed on such an exciting scheme, which will sit at the heart of the Bristol Temple Quarter transformation over the next few years.
“Temple Quay is a landmark location in the city and refurbishment works such as this, alongside the council’s regeneration project, mean it will be perfectly placed to support the city’s bounce back post-lockdown. We’re excited to get to work on this landmark project.”
Work is also taking place on the former sorting office site that is set to become the new £300m Bristol University campus and the major development on Temple Island as part of the council’s wider regeneration plans that seek to revive 130 hectares of brownfield land; build 10,000 new homes and create 22,000 jobs over the next 25 years.

Commenting on the refurbishment, Alex Hardwick, senior asset manager at APAM Ltd, said: “The design for the scheme is going to have sustainability at its heart to meet the needs of forward-thinking occupiers.
“Office design is paramount to attract and retain staff back to the office. Quay will be a stunning building in a prime location front and centre at Temple Meads, a key gateway into the city.”
