New barbershop opens in shipping container

By Milan Perera  Friday Oct 4, 2024

“Life is too short for bad haircuts,” says Seb Vaughan-Jones.

Vaughan-Jones has opened Barber Box within a development of refitted shipping containers that used to be located near Temple Meads.

Boxworks has now moved to near Brabazon near Filton, with Vaughan-Jones opening his own barbershop here after years of experience.

After working in schools, Vaughan-Jones decided to forge a fresh career path by training to become a barber in order to gain more flexibility at work.

He completed his training at Thomas Lloyd Barbering Academy in Cardiff and became fully qualified in 2017. Prior to starting his own business venture, Vaughan-Jones worked at a barbershop in Henleaze for nearly ten years.

But he felt it was the right time to move on and launch his brand of hairdressing and barbering.

He said: “I’ve lived in Bristol all my life and much like the city, I wanted to create something unique and personal, and that’s how Barber Box was born.”

With a young family by his side to support him on every step of the way, Vaughan-Jones wants Barber Box to be a unique experience for new clients which offers “more than a haircut”.

“The concept of Barber Box is to offer more than just a haircut”

Vaughan-Jones added: “The shop is built in a refurbished shipping container, located at the Brabazon housing site, which gives it a distinctive feel.

“I love the unusual nature of the space as I feel people are always looking for something different, a unique experience and that’s what I seek to offer.”

The young entrepreneur is upbeat about his maiden venture: “Life is too short for bad haircuts. The concept of Barber Box is to offer more than just a haircut. It’s about creating an experience tailored to each individual, with a focus on quality, precision, and a welcoming environment.

“I’m really excited to be part of the community I live in as I believe barbering is so much more than just cutting hair and I aim to not just gain cuts for the business but to gain a presence in the community as Barber Box grows.”
