South West’s first ever social media academy opens in Bristol

By Milan Perera  Thursday Dec 12, 2024

Bristol has become the home of South West’s first-ever social media academy, offering individuals the opportunity to enhance their digital marketing and social media management skills.

The Bristol Social Media Academy (BSMA) has already launched its flagship course focused on smartphone video creation.

The academy which opened its doors in early December is located at Armada House off Baldwin Street. Much to the delight of the team at the academy, it has received a string of inquiries into future courses.

Better Business
Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

The venture is designed to provide comprehensive training for individuals at all levels, from beginners to those seeking to advance their expertise in social media within today’s fast-paced business environment.

Founded by Thom Whitchurch, an acclaimed content creator whose projects have featured in campaigns for major brands such as the BBC, Thatchers Cider, LadBible, and Deliveroo, the academy aims to leverage his skills and substantial online presence with 50,000 social media followers and over 80 million video views on his channel “Thom Foodery”.

Thom said: “We are excited to bring a dedicated social media training academy to Bristol. Having run a social media agency for four years, I’ve witnessed the growing demand for businesses to manage their own social media in-house, without the long-term financial commitment of external agencies.

“This academy provides the perfect solution, equipping teams with the skills to effectively manage their social media and post on their own terms.”

The academy will offer both in-person and in-house training courses, tailored for small businesses, content creators, and social media managers. The Baldwin Street campus will offer discounted courses to mark the academy’s launch.

She said: “I’m excited to join BSMA and contribute to Bristol’s growing creative community. Now is the ideal time for businesses to enhance their content. A well-executed social media strategy is essential for building a strong brand and achieving business objectives.”
