The property development manager championing women in the sector
A national body of professional women working in the property and construction industry has appointed a Bristol-based property development manager as its new chair for South West.
Women in Property (WiP), the influencing and networking organisation for the sector, has announced that Rachel Holmes, from Colliers, will become its next regional chair.
Rachel, who is a business development manager at Colliers, took up the post for one year on Friday.
Women in Property has been using its platform to influence government, including the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Women and Work.
Key issues the group focuses on include making the industrial strategy work for women, how to recruit women for the 21st century, inclusivity and intersectionality, the impact of Covid-19 on women in the workplace, and the recruitment and retention of women in construction.
Women in Property also works to encourage girls and young women to consider a career in property and construction through school outreach projects and the National Student Awards.

On the appointment, Rachel said: “I am thrilled to be taking up the chair role for Women in Property South West. I am eager to lead the organisation as we continue to foster a culture of positive change and growth. Our vibrant committee will continue to empower and support women in the property and construction industry, creating a more inclusive and diverse community. I am excited for the journey ahead and the impact we will make together.”

Jo Edwards, head of Colliers’ Bristol office, added: “At Colliers, we are passionate about changing the face of property and creating a more equitable environment for both the women already working in the sector as well as fresh talent considering real estate as a future career.
“Rachel is already highlighting the many career opportunities the sector has to offer and building a strong female network in the region. I have no doubt that in her role as chair for Women in Property South West she will continue to make a significant impact and inspire more people to consider a career in the sector, and make positive changes for those already working in property and construction.”
Since joining Women in Property in 2020, Rachel has hosted some of the largest events in recent years and has been involved in what the branch has to offer, including networking, seminars, mentoring and the National Student Awards. Supporting Rachel as vice chair is Maddie Difazio-Wright, brand manager at MAKE Group.
