Women in STEM careers event in Bristol

By Ellie Pipe  Friday Nov 8, 2019

An event aiming to tackle the gender imbalance in STEM careers and bridge the gap between employers and talented graduates is coming to Bristol.

More than 160 womxn seeking to break into science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) industries will have the opportunity to meet some of the biggest names in the sector on Wednesday, November 13 at We The Curious.

Just 22 per cent of the STEM workforce in the UK is female, according to the Office for National Statistics Labour Force Survey.

Better Business
Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

Many companies are looking to address this gender imbalance but the event organisers say it can be difficult for recruiters to find the right candidates for STEM roles.

The STEM Women Bristol Community Event will strive to bridge the gap between talented graduates and employers, starting conversations and boosting equality in the future workforce.

There will be panel discussions, networking opportunities and more.

Alissa from Bloomberg highlighted just how important STEM Women events are to her company, saying: “It’s so important to have women in every part of the workforce, I think encouraging graduates to start these roles and then helping them stay in those roles is super important to what we do.

“At our company, it’s important for us to constantly innovate and bring new ideas and I don’t think we could do that without a great variety of individuals and that includes a great share of women.”
