Polpo to open restaurant on Whiteladies Road
To misquote Mark Twain, the reports of the death of Whiteladies Road have been greatly exaggerated.
Less than a month after the opening of the Everyman cinema and nearby Bakesmiths, one of London’s most critically acclaimed restaurants has announced that it is opening in what used to be Entelia.
Polpo serves up dishes from the back streets of Venice. In giving it a Bib Gourmand in this year’s Michelin guide, inspectors praised its “wonderfully fresh flavours… inherently satisfying dishes; staff are cool and calm and the atmosphere terrific.”
is needed now More than ever
The first Polpo restaurant was opened in London by Russell Norman and Richard Beatty.
Bristol’s Polpo will be the 10th in the growing chain, and the third outside the capital following Brighton and Leeds.

Norman told the Bristol Post: “I often wonder how differently my life would have turned out had I got into Bristol University in 1985.
“Instead, I flunked A-Level French and ended up at Sunderland Polytechnic, but Bristol still holds a magic and a fascination for me.
“It is a wonderful city full of beauty, culture, and charm, and we are extremely lucky to have found a site for Polpo on Whiteladies Road. We can’t wait to open our doors this summer and welcome fans of good food, good wine, Venetian spritz and old-school hospitality.”
An official date is still to be confirmed, but work is now taking place inside and the restaurant is expected to open as early as August.
