Two victims found in human trafficking raid
Two women thought to be victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation have been taken into protection in Bristol.
The Eastern European women were found at an address in the Harbourside as part of a number of raids across the country.
A 49-year-old man and 37-year-old woman were arrested in Cheshire in relation to the investigation.
is needed now More than ever
Further warrants were executed in London, Stoke, Preston, Nantwich and Crewe.
The two women in Bristol are now receiving support from agencies including charities Unseen and The Salvation Army.
Detective Superintendent Liz Tunks, head of major crime investigation at Avon and Somerset Police, said: “On Wednesday, two people were arrested on suspicion of exploiting women across our country, including two in the heart of Bristol.
“We are still working with them to establish exactly what their experiences are, but know there are many more women, children and men living the same very miserable and fearful existence.
“Victims are often reluctant to seek help themselves as they don’t know who to trust, where to get help, or face fears of deportation or violence.
“I would ask anyone who suspects human trafficking, sexual exploitation or forced labour is happening in their area to contact us.”
