People and planet-focussed shop and cafe opens

By Michael O'Brien  Wednesday Jul 26, 2023

A brand-new concept store has opened bringing two established businesses together under one roof.

Spoke & Stringer x Restore is now open opposite on Park Street in what used to be ice cream parlour Cowbee.

The store, which has a second branch on Whiteladies Road, aims to combine Spoke & Stringer’s retail focus with the “honest sustainability” and “people and planet” values of cafe and catering service Restore.

Before, both cafe and retail elements shared the Spoke & Stringer brand a decision was made to split the umbrella chain after the team reflected on their operations following a decade of business.

“Since we started in 2014, we’ve really changed how we do things,” said brand director Emma Linzel.

Spoke & Stringer was founded on motorcycle and surf culture events, but this focus no longer supported the businesses sustainable ethos.

The original motorbikes on sale have now been replaced with Super 73 E-Bikes. Other items in stock are YETI thermal containers, Firewire surf boards and Florence Marine athleisure wear.

All items for sale have a focus on adventure, outdoors and inspiration, aiming to encourage customers to engage with the natural surroundings of Bristol.

The cafe and deli counter of Restore features an abundance of nutritious options sourced from local suppliers

The cafe sells treats, wellness smoothies, salads and sandwiches.

Emma said: “With the people aspect, we’re serving food that is nourishing, restoring. We want to fuel people with good quality, locally sourced ingredients and bring people together through workshops and brand activation in the new Spoke and Stringer store”

Restore in-house hot drinks in cups made by Huskee, which makes them from recycled coffee bean husks.

Regular customers can also make use of a loyalty card that allows them to plant a tree after their fifth stamp.

Spoke & Stringer x Restore hopes to continue to inspire individuals and businesses on their own sustainability journey.

Future plans include events and workshops.
