Bristol’s first community climate action plans launched

By Valentina Hernández Gómez  Thursday Feb 23, 2023

The Community Climate Action Project (CCAP) is launching a new learning and mentoring programme to support and encourage grass-roots and community organisations in Bristol to develop their own climate and nature action plans.

The programme will provide a £3,000 bursary, free workshops, peer-to-peer mentoring, and resources to support these communities.

The CCAP has been working towards community-led climate and nature action over the last two years, and in 2022, six community organisations co-produced Bristol’s first community action plans.

“This is a great opportunity for community groups to develop climate and nature priorities which consider the quality of life for local people,” said Amy Harrison, head of community partnerships for Bristol Green Capital Partnership.

To apply for this opportunity, organisations don’t necessarily need to be environmental or climate-focused. Climate and nature action can come from many different backgrounds, and a more diverse range of communities needs greater representation within this movement.

Bristol Green Capital Partnership highlights the importance of involving underrepresented communities: “Applications from communities outside the existing geographic areas (Lockleaze, Lawrence Weston, Hartcliffe and Easton & Lawrence Hill) and demographic communities (Bristol’s community of disabled people and refugee community) represented are particularly welcomed as we are committed to expanding the diversity and reach of the Community Climate Action Project.”

Further information about the learning and mentoring programme is available on the Bristol Green Capital Partnership website.

The deadline for applications is March, 20.

There is also an online information session on March 1 from 10am to 12pm. You can book a space here.
