By Advertising Feature  Monday Jan 1, 2024

You’d choose to plan a trip to Bristol, England, for many reasons. There are many things to see, do, and experience in this southwestern England city, like visiting the internationally recognised Clifton Suspension Bridge, admiring the incredible street art, and shopping up a storm on Gloucester Road. However, the food is undoubtedly another significant drawcard. If you’re planning a trip to Bristol, ensure you’ve worked up an appetite for these delicious local foods:

Easter Biscuits
If travel platforms like Budget Travel Plans have told you that Easter is the best time to visit Bristol, they’d probably be right. If you travel to the city in March or April, you might find a café or supermarket offering the Bristol-famous Easter Biscuits.

Originally from West Country, Easter Biscuits are deliciously spiced, soft, and round biscuits with flour, butter, egg, sugar, baking powder, and currants. One bite and your taste buds will be tantalized by the sugary crunch and subtle spices. They are the perfect treat to carry in your bag while exploring some of the best Bristol attractions.

Mothering Buns
Visit Bristol in March, and you’ll likely see Mothering Buns taking pride of place in local cafés. Mothering buns are sweetbread treats originating in Bristol. While they look like regular bread buns, they are sweeter and typically have icing with a smattering of Hundreds and Thousands. These buns get their name from being a preferred treat the day before Mothering Sunday.

Pieminister Pies
Pieminister is an award-winning, sustainable pie-making business popular with locals and tourists alike. Visit Bristol during the colder months of the year, and you’ll find a Pieminister pie is one of the best ways to warm yourself up.

There are many different flavours to choose from, some of which are themed around holidays and seasons. Visit at Christmas, and you’ll be able to buy ‘Mistle Moo’, a British beef steak pie with port and dry-cured bacon. The ‘Good Elf’ pie is popular with vegetarians, featuring tofu, cranberry, port, and thyme.

Shepherd’s Pie
You’re sure to find shepherd’s pie in many UK eateries, but they are truly something special in Bristol. Pay a visit to a local restaurant on a cold winter’s day, and your belly will be well and truly warmed.

Shepherd’s pies in Bristol consist of mutton or lamb meat, Worcestershire sauce, onions, carrots, and a thick gravy or sauce. The crème de la crème is the rich, buttery mashed potatoes on top. Some of the best establishments also achieve an incredible depth of flavor with black pepper, marjoram, and parsley.

Full English Breakfast
You can’t explore local Bristol attractions on an empty stomach. Start the day with a Bristol favourite: the Full English breakfast. A Full English breakfast has everything you could ever think of as a possible breakfast treat, including bacon, eggs, sausages, mushrooms, beans, and grilled tomatoes. Full English Breakfasts are on the menus of many of the best Bristol eateries.

There are plenty of tourist attractions to add to your list of must-visit places when planning a trip to Bristol. However, food is integral to the experience. Don’t forget to try some of these Bristol goodies above to experience daily life like a true Bristolian.
