Amazing new mural created in Windmill Hill
A pub with unrivalled panoramic views of Bristol now has a work of art on one of its wall worthy of its surroundings.
The collaboration by My Dog Sighs and Curtis Hylton on the side of the Rising Sun in Windmill Hill is the first piece painted as part of Upfest Summer Editions.
Local, national and international street artists will paint a series of large murals across south Bristol over the coming months, in a fallow year for the Upfest annual street art and graffiti festival.
The 1,600 sq ft painting on the side of the Rising Sun took five days to paint and was partially funded by the new management of the Alfred Road pub as a thank you to the local community.

Writing on Facebook, My Dog Sighs said: “I was keen to embed the work in the community and with the help of local residents and Bristol friends was able to determine that there was indeed a windmill on the hill in the 15th century, the only visual evidence of which was an 18th century etching of the ruin of the tower.
“Using that I was able to find a specific windmill design to the area and use examples of those to recreate the windmill in the reflection. You may also spot other Bristol landmarks I was able to see from the scissor lift at the wall.
“The community was also keen to keep an organic/nature theme which gave me a brilliant opportunity to approach Curtis whose work over the last year or so has exploded and developed to an insanely good level.”
He added: “Big shout out to the @risingsunwindmillhill for the wall and the support and the refreshments and @jondavey007 for the drone footage as well as everyone who came out to sit on the grass drinking beer in the sunshine and watching us work.”
