Acclaimed abstract painter Joe Warrior-Walker to be exhibited at 17 Midland Road
Growing up in St Ives, Cornwall as the child of artist parents, Joe Warrior-Walker spent a good deal of his young life travelling across Asia, and his family split their time between his mother’s native India, and England.
Moving to London to study at art school in his early 20s, his soon began to make a name for himself as a painter, and has exhibited at numerous group shows in the last 15 years, in the USA, London, and Bristol, where he now lives and works.
His fifth solo show, Silt and Stone, will open at 17 Midland Road in Old Market on June 8, for a week-long exhibition presented by Bristol gallerists Coates and Scarry.

The series of mixed media paintings on canvas and paper are abstract archaeological depictions of the local landscape: including “the underlying geology, river systems, and the urban environment”.
“They are rich impactful records of painting as a process grounded in drawing and observations of the natural world,” explain Coates and Scarry, reflecting on Warrior-Walker’s aesthetic.
“They retain traces of something tangible while being reduced to a level that oscillates between abstraction and figuration.”
