Banksy releases footage of artworks on Ukraine’s crumbling buildings
Banksy has released a short documentary chronicling his artwork in war-ravaged Ukraine.
In a video posted on his Instagram, the anonymous graffiti artist showed his travels to the city of Borodianka in November.
The video, soundtracked in part by Ukrainian folk music, depicts footage of an artist cutting stencils and spray-painting his murals against the backdrop of the country’s crumbling architecture.

The works feature people doing daily tasks against war-torn buildings in Hostomel, Horenka and Borodyanka.
One mural depicted a man resembling Russian president Vladimir Putin being flipped during a judo match with a little boy. Another shows a female gymnast balancing on a pile of rubble on the side of a bombed building.

Before revealing the artwork in Ukraine, speculation had been mounting that Banksy had visited the conflict zone after a series of murals appeared in the town near Kyiv.
The reel video shows the Bristolian artist speaking to the local community, with one mother saying: “It was a bomb here and many people died. My child used to go to this kindergarten.”
Borodyanka, located northwest of the capital, was one of the towns hardest hit by Russia’s bombardment at the beginning of the invasion in February. Horenka also found itself on the front lines and was severely affected by shelling, mass displacement and the killing of civilians.
