Billboard art highlights devastating effects of hyperconsumerism
Everything Must Go by artistic and activist duo kennardphillipps is an art “intervention” that aims to confront the wasteful practices of many of the world’s leading brands.
The piece has appeared on a trio of billboards on Clarence Road opposite Trinity.
An assortment of consumer goods and domestic waste from a Sports Direct plastic bag to an Ikea trolley appears to spill out of the third billboard which has been tipped at an angle.
is needed now More than ever
The artwork comes in advance of the Vanguard exhibition opening at M Shed and the upcoming World Refill Day.
In a statement, kennardphillipps said: “We protest the corporations demand of EVERYTHING MUST GO as they produce more and more stuff, meaning more and more waste.
“We say EVERYTHING WILL GO unless we stop them. This solitary planet is all we have.”
kennardphillipps’ works will also feature in Vanguard, coming to the M Shed from June 26 to October 31.
Everything Must Go is the first of Vanguard’s art activations focusing on street art and sustainability ahead of the exhibition.
