Bristol artist selected for new Temple Quarter public art project
A Bristol artist who studied printmaking at UWE has been selected for a public art project in Bristol’s fast-developing Temple Quarter.
Dorcas Casey has been selected to showcase her work in the area’s new Welcome building, a new landmark work and events space with a bar and cafe.
Casey was chosen following an open call by Bristol arts charity, Bricks, and was shortlisted for an interview before being selected to display her art in the building.

She now has a studio in Stokes Croft and works with different materials including fabric, plaster, bronze, and ceramics.
Casey has won many awards including the 2021 ACS Studio Prize, has had her work featured in Banksy’s Dismaland and showcased her processions and sculptures for Glastonbury Festival numerous times.
The Welcome building is also offering a public art programme in which Casey – as part of her commission – will take part in engagement activities responding to the artists proposal for the project and also within the local community.
Speaking about the selection, Bricks CEO Jack Gibbon said: “We are delighted to see Dorcas commissioned to make her first permanent public artwork at Welcome Building.
“Her proposal really impressed the panel and we look forward to seeing her creations realised. This summer there will be multiple opportunities for communities to engage in the process, with the final artworks launched in Autumn 2024.”
