Bristol medical students platform ‘local voices of healthcare’ in art show

By Sofia Dhame  Thursday Apr 18, 2024

An art exhibition at The Island will showcase the talents of the city’s future doctors, dentists and vets.

The show, which opens on Thursday evening, is donating 20 per cent of proceeds to Bristol Community Arts, a Gloucester Road-based education centre, for the second year running.

Organiser Belnice Nzinga said the exhibition “comprises the perspectives of healthcare workers in the Bristol area through art”.

The theme for this year’s art show is emotions and the contributions range from those of students of medicine, dentistry and veterinary science to working GPs and physicians.

A whole host of prints and original artwork will be on display, ranging from educational pieces on medicine to more personal works.

In collaboration with charity Artspace UK, who transform empty buildings into creative spaces, the University of Bristol’s medical students are trying to convey realistic experiences of healthcare workers that they say are otherwise confined to the news and social media.

The exhibition opens on Thursday and continues until Sunday, April 21.
