Bristol mural makes shortlist of UK’s best
A Bristol mural has made the shortlist for the UK’s Greatest Mural 2024.
Located just off of North Street, on Lime Road the hyperrealistic portrait of street violinist Rupert Engledow leaps off of the side of house with its vibrant strokes as if he is playing in the street.
is needed now More than ever
The artwork is by Liam Bononi, a Brazilian born and Liverpool-based street artist who paints murals all over the world.
He created the piece as part of Upfest 2024, Europe’s largest street art and graffiti festival and a staple attraction in the city.
Having stumbled upon violinist Rupert Engledow performing in the streets of York, he decided to immortalise the moment on a canvas of his own.
Speaking on the performance, he said: “I decided I needed to bring it to life with this mural. It was a long winter and it always amazes me how art can help us deal and develop our emotions for a period of time”.
He draws inspiration from exaggerated, dramatic, and theatrical expressions.
Reflecting intense emotions, predominantly introspective or in states of catharsis, delving into the drama of self-discovery and human transformation.

The city is renowned for it’s vibrant street art and graffiti, with the most notable being a certain anonymous artist going by the name of Banksy.
But residents of the city know and appreciate the hundreds, if not thousands of painted murals from north to south and now the rest of the UK have been given an insight into what we have on our doorstep.
This year there are three categories.
They are ‘Best Mural of the World’, ‘Artist Choice’ and ‘Expert Spotlight.’
Liam’s piece is nominated for Expert Spotlight.
Public voting is now open, so take a look below at the UK’s nominees for 2024.
