Fishponds artist sets up garden gallery
In August 2020, Lisa Maylon hung prints, paintings and lampshades from the branches of her front garden’s eucalyptus tree.
It was part of BSpoke16, a summer art trail, and became a talking point of the road she lives on.
The pop-up art gallery was such a hit that Lisa hosted it again in December 2020, before setting up an impromptu shop on the last weekend before Christmas.
is needed now More than ever
“This year, I decided to set up some artwork in my window in preparation for Valentine’s Day and it has remained there ever since,” says Lisa, who works as an artist and evening duty manager at the Bristol Folk House.
“I stand a whiteboard against my eucalyptus tree. My partner is an excellent sign writer, so I change the wording according to the occasion, such as Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day.”
Customers can take a business card, which are attached to the garden wall, view artwork and buy products from the railing, while remaining socially distanced.

Lisa specialises in drawing and painting the built environment of Bristol and even painted a mural of Hannah More’s Fishponds’ house as Beechwood Club in July 2020.
Through displaying her work at her home on Fishponds Road, traffic has increased to her website at a time which is particularly challenging for creatives.
A neighbour, who was collecting a commission made an additional purchase of a framed Clifton Suspension Bridge print after seeing her window display. Lisa says: “I have always enjoyed the challenge of marketing my artwork and it is very liberating to be doing this from the comfort of my home and getting to know my neighbours!”
The artist, who lives on the cusp of postcodes BS5 and BS16, hopes to continue her window display post-lockdown and to host her own one-day art pop-up galleries as the weather gets warmer.
