Has a new Banksy appeared in Totterdown?

By Lowie Trevena  Thursday Dec 10, 2020

Not content with being England’s steepest residential street, Vale Street in Totterdown now might possibly be the location of the newest artwork by Banksy.

The new piece on the side of a house on the bottom of the road depicts an elderly woman sneezing, her dentures flying out her mouth – along with a spray of germs.

Banksy has yet to officially confirm that the piece is by him. It has appeared just two months after his latest work showing a girl hula-hooping with a bicycle tyre in Nottingham.

Dale Conway, who lives on Vale Street, saw a man in a hi-vis vest at the bottom of the road looking at the side of the house as he was making a coffee in his kitchen on Thursday morning.

“I thought that he was just a particularly keen tradesman,” the 29-year-old engineer told Bristol24/7.

“I have got absolutely no clue as to whether it’s a new Banksy or not. The street gets quite a lot of attention anyway!

“It would be nice if it stayed in a good condition. I don’t want people to come along and ruin it.”

Vale Street is well known as the steepest residential road in England with a gradient of 21.81°.

Each year on Easter Sunday, an egg rolling competition takes place on the street, with residents standing at the top of the road and rolling hard boiled eggs to the bottom.
