Location revealed for Bristol’s immersive Van Gogh exhibition

By Betty Woolerton  Thursday Mar 10, 2022

The hotly-anticipated immersive Van Gogh experience is finally coming to Bristol and its undisclosed location has now been unveiled.

Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience will take place at Propyard – the site of a former Ministry of Defence torpedo testing factory.

The repurposed space in St Philip’s March is located on Feeder Road and is one of Bristol’s newest hubs for creativity and culture.

Transformed by a collective of Bristol-based event and music industry specialists, the once-abandoned site is currently home to a bar serving drinks from local breweries and props from old film sets.

The 2,700 square metre hangar is part of the regeneration of the area in east Bristol, which will be home to a new university campus.

Propyard is now set to be transformed by floor-to-ceiling, life-animating digital installations – ready to immerse visitors in Vincent Van Gogh’s brush strokes.

Brought to life through video mapping technology, visitors are invited to “step into” more than 300 of the Dutch artist’s sketches, drawings, and paintings.

As well as the two-storey central projection area, the exhibition also includes separate galleries that chronicle Van Gogh’s life, technique and influence.

Guiding the viewer through a ten-minute journey on ‘a day in the life of the artist’, it will be a chance to discover the inspiration behind works such as Bedroom at Arles and Starry Night Over The Rhone River.

Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience will debut in Propyard in April 2022. Tickets are on now sale, starting from £16 for adults and £9.50 for children.
