MAYK announces new residency programme supported by Jerwood Arts
Power-house live art producers MAYK have opened the call for proposals for a new artist residency programme supported by Jerwood Arts called I Like It. What Is It?
Aimed at live and interdisciplinary performance artists with between five to 10 years of professional experience and with no prior relationship with MAYK, the residency is expressly interested in allowing so-called ‘boomerang’ ideas – those that just won’t go away – the space to grow.
“This is a chance to engage with ideas that feel challenging, elusive, untameable, without being restricted by production schedules or expectations of what the thing is, before you know what the thing is,” say the organisers. “Do we ever know what the thing is?”

There are no constraints on form or theme, and prospective applicants are encouraged to see the opportunity as a space in which to share ideas, collaborate and play.
Submissions can be made in writing – up to 500 words – or in an audio file of no more than four minutes.
The project will offer an £8k bursary, creative mentoring, networking and wraparound support, desk space in the MAYK office in St Anne’s House, a festival pass for Mayfest 2024, and accommodation/travel for artists based outside Bristol. Access costs will also be covered wherever necessary.
The submission deadline for I Like It. What Is It? is April 10. For further information about the project and full details on how to apply, go to www.mayk.org.uk.
