New sculpture appears next to semi-demolished Grosvenor Hotel

By Martin Booth  Monday Feb 5, 2024

A sculpture of a catrina has been placed next to the Grosvenor Hotel, whose 1930s extension remains standing following demolition of most of the original red-brick Victorian building over the weekend.

The sculpture is the latest work by Getting Up To Stuff, who has called his Day of the Dead-themed piece Requiem.

The anonymous artist installed the piece early on Monday morning and has chained it to the fencing surrounding the site opposite Temple Meads.

“Requiem for the Grosvenor Hotel,” Getting Up To Stuff wrote on Instagram.

“Like an old dowager duchess, even in her decline she had more style and grace than all the fish tank monuments that surrounded her.”
