Art / Let's Make Art

An afternoon of drawing… not as you know it

By Steve Wright  Tuesday Sep 18, 2018

Kids: ever wanted to draw a moustache on the Mona Lisa or scribble all over a posh lady’s dress? Fancy turning yourself into a masterpiece and rubbing shoulders with real life artists? Or just hitting the dance floor with your mum and drawing all over your dad?*

On Saturday October 6 at The Arts Mansion, Ashton Court, you’re invited to join Bristol Arts Monster and Let’s Make Art for PLAY: an afternoon of drawing… but not as you know it. BAM and LMA promise an anarchic family arts event featuring live art, drawing games, graffiti fun, face painting, DJs, bar, cakes and a whole load of doodling.

The event is part of The Big Draw, the world’s biggest celebration of drawing. Let’s Make Art are well known for their creative art workshops, where the children go home with art their parents are proud to display on the walls: Bristol Arts Monster, meanwhile, have been bringing family fun to Bristol since 2015 with their hugely popular Jump Around events.

“Both LMA and BAM firmly believe in putting on intergenerational events where the parents have as much fun as the kids,” explains BAM’s Fran Harkness. “So there’ll be plenty to keep the smalls happy, which means you can enjoy a piece of cake, a pint, a doodle and a shimmy on the dance floor!”

The Arts Mansion is ArtSpace LifeSpace’s takeover of Ashton Court Mansion. They hope to breathe new life into the building by turning it into an inclusive multi-use arts venue for Bristol and North Somerset facilitating art, theatre, performance and community activities.

Limited £5 tickets are now available from buytickets.at/playbristol

*Don’t worry dads, it won’t get too messy.
