Rowdy paints new murals after smashed window

By Martin Booth  Thursday Dec 19, 2024

The most famous tiles in Bristol are currently accessorised by one of the city’s most famous street artists.

The green and white tiles on the side of 808 give their name to a piece of visual trickery known as the ‘cafe wall illusion’.

Despite the tiles being perfectly parallel, it appears that they are wonky.

A smashed window above the tiles has presented an opportunity for Rowdy to add a splash of colour to the exterior of 808 on the corner of Perry Road and St Michael’s Hill.

Rowdy has painted one of his crocodiles on the boarded-up window, as well as a pair of crocodiles and a blue cat on the neighbouring wall next to Lower Church Lane.

Rowdy collaborated with Kabz on this wall; a prime spot which has seen a number of well-known pieces painted there over the years.

On Instagram, Kabz wrote: “Been out for action for a while dealing with various life shit but when u get a shout from @rowdyunofficial asking if u want to collab on this iconic Bristol spot the only answer iz……’Fuk Yeah!!!!!!!’

“Maybe it’s just me bein an old geezer but I feel honoured to have put summit on this tiny wall where so many incredible artists have painted before us.

“Bigs ups Rowdy, was a lot of fun n great to catch up ? if u know anyfing about Bristol graff history then u know wot amazing work has been on this wall.”
