RWA hosts staff exhibition: ‘Also Artists’

By Sarski Anderson  Wednesday Nov 29, 2023

The Royal West of England Academy (RWA) has launched an exhibition with a difference, celebrating the many hidden talents within the organisation.

Also Artists: A Staff Exhibition includes over 80 pieces made by 43 members of staff, including drawing school tutors, members of the front-of-house team and freelancers.

“Beyond offering our dedicated staff the opportunity to display their artwork in a professional gallery environment,” says the RWA, “this exhibition has opened doors for members of the Visitor Experience team to gain insights into different organisational roles and acquire valuable skills that will shape their careers in the cultural sector.”

The collection was the brainchild of Steph Garratt, a RWA marketing assistant who proposed the idea in January and has been project manager for the duration.

The chosen lead image for the exhibition comes from marketing manager, Hemali Modha, who has contributed three pieces to Also Artists.

“The exhibition is a great way to show the diversity of staff within the RWA,” she says. “There is so much expertise that staff members can share, equally staff feel that their skills as artists have been acknowledged and celebrated.”

Many of the artworks in the exhibition are available to purchase.

Also Artists: A Staff Exhibition is at the RWA until January 7 2024 at 10am-5pm Tuesday-Sunday; closed Monday (except for Bank Holidays). It is free to attend.
